My Right-Hand Rings

I’ve been wearing a ring on the ring finger of my right hand almost every day for the past few months. It seems that I’ve been on a ring kick, and there’s definitely a theme to my selections. I can’t get enough of inexpensive sterling silver rings, and I’ve gotten quite a few for recent holidays/birthdays/anniversaries. Here are the ones that I’ve been favoring lately.

This aquamarine and sterling silver ring was a (self-selected – ha!) anniversary gift. I love its antique look, and I’ve gotten lots of compliments on it. And since it happens to be my birthstone, it was extra special. I purchased it from Amazon.

——————–

Most “continuous” stone bands that I’ve seen aren’t actually continuous at all. There is usually a plain metal strip that’s meant to be hidden at the back. That’s why I love this shell ring – the inset shell pieces actually wrap all the way around the band. I purchased it from Amazon, too, but it’s out of stock.

——————–

I love this ring’s simple, clean design. But what I love most of all is that it’s subtly engraved with one of my favorite passages. You can purchase it here.

——————–

This ring was a Las Vegas trip purchase (from Shemoni at the Miracle Mile Shops). The stone is actually set into a lid that opens (see inset photo). I’ve always loved “poison” or locket rings – it’s jewelry and a toy to play with. 🙂

Just as a side note, I wasn’t paid or “comped” to feature these rings (or any other pieces that I’ve included on this blog, for that matter). They’re rings that have been purchased for my own jewelry wardrobe and that I wanted to use for this little “show and tell.”

Do you wear a right-hand ring? What does it look like and why is it special? Do tell (and show).

Pacman Rings and Other Favorites

It’s no secret that I’m a little on the, shall we say, nerdy side. So when I saw this Pacman ring set (on Pinterest, where else?)… instant love. This officially wins the award for “Most Creative Use of Cabochons.” An award which I just made up. So prestigious.

It appears that this ring set sold out some time ago, but the designer, Rachel Pfeffer, has a shop full of lovely and clever creations. I appreciate her lighthearted yet wearable style. This necklace, for example, has a fun bicycle motif (See my post about other bicycle jewelry here.)

Or this sparkly drusy necklace. (See my post about other druzy jewelry here.)

And one more favorite: darling honeycomb earrings featuring tiny dangling bees:

Souvenir Jewelry: Las Vegas

One of the things that I love most about jewelry is that it can be a great reminder of places I’ve been. I often pick out a piece of jewelry for a souvenir of a trip. It doesn’t have to be expensive or even particularly indicative of the place where I got it. I just choose a piece that I like and that I know I’ll wear.

I don’t know if it’s because I’ve been feeling sentimental (or because it has been WAY too long since I’ve been on vacation), but I’ve been nostalgic about one piece in particular.

This sterling silver and peridot ring was something that I picked up while on vacation in Las Vegas last year. I bought it at Shemoni, a store where I spent way too much time, in the Miracle Mile Shops, a mall where I spent way too much time.

I just loved that city – walking around and taking in how over-the-top it all is. There’s something fun about it every now and then, you know?

You can walk a couple of blocks and be in a completely different world, and if you don’t like that world… walk a couple more blocks and it will change again.

My ring is a great reminder of the time I spent there – the next best thing to really going back!

Recent Obsession: Peach Sapphire Rings

I have Pinterest to blame thank for yet another recent obsession: peach sapphire rings. I just can’t get enough of these feminine-looking stones mounted in lovely settings.

This pin of a user’s gorgeous peach sapphire engagement ring set me off in search of even more peach-hued rings:

Also, how amazing is that Pinterest user’s Le Petit Prince wedding inspiration board? I read the book in French class, and it’s incredibly charming as a wedding theme.

American Idol Surprise Engagement Ring

If you watched the American Idol finale, you got an unexpected bonus: Ace Young proposed to fellow ‘Idol’ alum Diana DeGarmo:

“We have conquered Broadway together. We have created our new music together. We have an amazing group of people around us. And with the help of David Webb jewelry I have a way to make this last forever. Are you ready?” Young said, before dropping down to one knee.

I’ll refrain from comment on the proposal (and jeweler name-dropping) since I haven’t seen it. I do find it sweet that Young made a mental note of DeGarmo’s preference for yellow gold, and her love of sunflowers (hence the yellow diamond). See a close-up of the ring here.

And just for fun, here’s a yellow diamond ring that the rest of us can buy readymade. The setting is more ornate than the one on DeGarmo’s sleek, simple ring – but I like it.

Lady Gaga Engaged?

Celebrity photographer Terry Richardson posted a photo of singer Lady Gaga wearing a ring that he claims is her engagement ring. Is it real, or just a silly photo for friends?

I was almost too distracted by her bold gold-toned jewelry to notice. (I actually kind of love the necklace in a way.) If it is an engagement ring, score another one for yellow gold making a comeback.

As of now, Gaga herself is silent on the issue.

Wedding Jewelry Wednesday: A Touch of Gold

While doing some blog browsing, I came across a fabulous Portland wedding on Style Me Pretty. The bride, Julie, is wearing a very pretty gold-toned filigree necklace. It’s a nice change of pace from the sea of silver that still dominates wedding jewelry.

It takes on even more meaning when Julie, in the comments, mentioned that the necklace (plus a ring) is from her mother’s jewelry collection. What a wonderful “something borrowed!”

Inspired by this bride’s choice, I rounded up a few affordable and pretty gold-toned statement necklaces:

Beyoncé’s Bib Necklace

Have you seen Beyoncé’s amazing Lorraine Schwartz bib necklace on the cover of People magazine? It’s the same one worn by Heidi Klum at the 2012 Golden Globes. The necklace, which features champagne diamonds and huge turquoise stones, is part of a set worth about $1 million.

Speaking of turquoise stones, it looks like the much-beloved Duchess of Cambridge was sporting some turquoise of her own?

Although I’m trying to be more adventurous with my own jewelry choices, I haven’t stepped out in a bib necklace yet. This one from Kate Spade might just get me to do it, though:

I love the snappy aqua color, and the rectangle-shaped “stones.” It’s available in a happy yellow shade, too. Bam. Instant sunshine.

Gotta love having options. And for the truly fearless, there are matching earrings, too. Which color is your favorite?

As an aside, I’d like to post belated anniversary love to my dear Mr. Jewelry Wardrobe. Thank you for tolerating understanding supporting my jewelry habits.

Angelina Rocks

It’s always big news when a Hollywood power couple decides to make it official, and it doesn’t get much more powerful than Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.

The couple recently confirmed their engagement, and Jolie’s new sparkler was ready for its close-up. The ring, which is rumored to feature as much as 10 carats of diamonds, was designed by Pitt in collaboration with jeweler Robert Procop. Pitt and Procop reportedly worked on the ring design for a year.

Evelyn Ring (rock crystal and sterling silver), $1,195, Gemvara

What does that mean for the rest of us? Look-alikes, of course! Gemvara has stepped up to the plate with their Evelyn rock crystal ring, shown above, which is made of sterling silver. Of course, like Gemvara’s other rings, it can be customized. Pink tourmaline for me, please.

I have to say that, although I prefer antique-inspired engagement rings, I think this one suits Jolie’s style well. What do you think of her new left-hand accessory?
