Bed Bath & Beyond + Badgley Mischka Bridal Collection

I did a double-take when I checked my email and noticed this Badgley Mischka jewelry collection announcement from Bed Bath & Beyond:

A pairing with the home retailer makes sense when you consider how closely associated the brand is with weddings. It’s certainly a go-to source for bridal registries – I can’t tell you how many wedding gifts I’ve seen wrapped in the distinctive purple Bed Bath & Beyond packaging.

The collection itself is surprisingly comprehensive. It includes everything from necklaces…

Wedding Jewelry Wednesday: A Touch of Lace

Few things are as classic for bridal attire as lace. But far from being stuffy, lace can be a beautiful addition to a modern bride’s wedding day.

After seeing Mad Tea Garden’s jewelry (via Disney wedding website Magical Day Weddings), I’ve loved the idea of lace-inspired jewelry. Check out those earrings below – lacy and they’re mint green! WANT!

Lace-inspired jewelry would look great on bridesmaids and on the bride herself. Some jewelry features metal that mimics lace, and some jewelry features actual lace accents. Either way, the results are beautiful.

Pacman Rings and Other Favorites

It’s no secret that I’m a little on the, shall we say, nerdy side. So when I saw this Pacman ring set (on Pinterest, where else?)… instant love. This officially wins the award for “Most Creative Use of Cabochons.” An award which I just made up. So prestigious.

Pacman Ring Series, RachelPfefferDesigns on Etsy

It appears that this ring set sold out some time ago, but the designer, Rachel Pfeffer, has a shop full of lovely and clever creations. I appreciate her lighthearted yet wearable style. This necklace, for example, has a fun bicycle motif (See my post about other bicycle jewelry here.)

Or this sparkly drusy necklace. (See my post about other druzy jewelry here.)

And one more favorite: darling honeycomb earrings featuring tiny dangling bees:

Wedding Jewelry Wednesday: Minty Fresh, Peachy Keen

Color me obsessed with peachy hues lately, as seen in my love for peach sapphires. Add the spring-like, fresh look of mint, and you’ve got a match made in heaven.

These two tones play very nicely together for a wedding: Exhibit A: Style Me Pretty and Exhibit B: Girl About Town. Mint and peach would be fun as bridesmaid colors – and as splashes of color for the bride herself!

Wedding Jewelry Wednesday: Something Blue Jewels

One of the most time-honored traditions is for the bride to wear “something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue.” Every bride’s situation is unique, and so those who wish to follow the tradition can customize it to be meaningful to them.

The “something blue” is often a garter, or another, ahem, less visible piece of apparel. One fun option, though, is to pick a subtle piece of jewelry that incorporates the color blue into your bridal attire. Here are a few pieces that I think could fill that need nicely.

Six Picks: Playing Catchup

After an unintentionally extended hiatus, I’m really back this time! And so happy to be blogging again. Thanks to all who have checked in.

This week’s Six Picks will be a little less categorized than usual. I’m featuring a few of the things that have caught my eye during my break.

1. Danielle’s Mini-Me. I was excited to open my email and discover this announcement from Kendra Scott:

The jewelry designer’s beloved (and much coveted by yours truly) Danielle earrings now come in a smaller version. I loved the Danielle earrings ($60), but I wasn’t sure I could pull them off because of their size. The smaller Elle earrings ($52) look just right.

2. Hunger Gems. With the first Hunger Games movie hitting theaters, it was hard to miss Katniss et al in action. I’ve been swept up by the books and the film myself, so I enjoyed Gemvara’s suggestions for tribute token-inspired jewelry.

Birds of a Feather Ring, Gemvara

This lovely (mockingjay, perhaps?) feather ring is beautiful and – at $272 in sterling in garnet – affordable.

3. Shades of Green. Not to be confused with the Disney resort, this topic is all about the green jewelry I’ve seen in honor of Saint Patrick’s Day – and spring.

Green Bees Vintage Charm Bracelet, BumbershootDesigns on Etsy

I love the fresh springtime feel of this green charm bracelet. The soft and muted shades, plus the bee and leaf charms, make this the perfect way to enjoy the season.

4. It’s Electrifying. This season seems to be all about bright, saturated, and even neon colors. The fluorescent tones are everywhere, and they’re perfecto for those who are tired of playing it safe.

Fluoro Necklace, Bauble Bar

Take, for example, this bright collar necklace. The stunning shade would make a statement with your spring wardrobe.

5. Brilliant Bangles. In keeping with the bold color theme, you can also find bangle bracelets with striking shapes and bright colors. Wear just one, or several at a time, to customize the look.

Anna & Ava Bubble Enamel Bracelet, Dillards

The gold-tone bracelet above ($20) features a playful throwback bubble pattern. As of this writing, you can save $10 by buying two Anna & Ava items. (Click the link for details.)

6. All Aflutter. If you’ve been jewelry shopping recently, you know that butterflies and butterfly related motifs are everywhere. It seems the winged insects have caught designers’ imaginations once again.

Elle Jewelry Butterfly Wing Ring, Amazon.com

I really like that this ring pays a subtler tribute to butterflies. The ring’s design is inspired by the pattern on the insects’ wings, rather than being a direct translation of the butterfly shape.

Birthstones: Let’s Hear It for March Babies

Get ready for a self-indulgent post. I’m dedicating this one to the best birthstone of all: aquamarine. (No bias here. It would make any journalist proud.)

I’m more than familiar with the glittery aquamarine (or simulated aquamarine) sets that you can buy at just about any store that sells fine jewelry. I tried to push myself out of that comfort zone a bit to find pieces that were unique and/or particularly appealing.

Six Picks: Get 2012 Oscars Style

Last night’s Academy Awards red carpet offered up a gorgeous array of accessory styles that any jewelry lover could appreciate. The celebrities showed off many great looks that let us live vicariously through their sparkle.

That being said, many of these looks can be captured in accessories that the rest of us can afford. Here are a few of my favorite red carpet jewelry picks, with examples of pieces that allow you to get the look.

1. Glittering bangle bracelets (as seen on Penelope Ann Miller – Celebrity-Gossip.net) provide a touch of glamour to any outfit. The one below captures some of the vintage style of Miller’s bracelet.

Kalina’s Fancy CZ Cuff Bracelet, Emitations.com

2. Show-stopping emeralds (as seen on Viola Davis – JustJared) will never get old. Let’s be honest – the Lorraine Schwartz jewels that Davis wore are unparalleled. But these dramatic emerald earrings are beautiful in their own way.

Emerald and Diamond Earrings, Ross-Simons

3. An oversized link bracelet (as seen on Emma Stone – JustJared) is just about all you need to accent an outfit. I love the scale of this one, and it could go with a lot of different looks.

Kenneth Jay Lane Large Link Bracelet, Amazon

4. Double diamond earrings (as seen on Milla Jovovich – JustJared) provide a gorgeous touch to an outfit. The graduated stones in the earrings are classic and beautiful.

Nadri Framed CZ Drop Earrings, Bloomingdale’s

5. A glittering necklace (as seen on Michelle Williams – JustJared) was just about all that Ms. Williams needed to accent her lovely, vibrant gown. I think a necklace like this one would be beautiful on a bride.

Masterpiece CZ Necklace, With This Bling

6. Sapphire chandelier earrings (as seen on Tina Fey – Celebrity-Gossip.net) were a nice change from the diamond and/or emerald earrings that have been abundant on red carpets lately.

Wedding Jewelry Wednesday: Bridal Jewelry Rental

It’s common for celebrities to wear borrowed jewelry for big events such as awards ceremonies and movie premieres. But as a bride, you can get in on the concept of “borrowing” jewelry for your big day, too.

Middleton Earrings, Adorn.com

A bride can choose jewelry from an online vendor (such as Adorn), have it mailed to her for a rental fee, and then return it. The bride gets to wear elegant pieces that most likely would have been out of her price range. The Middleton earrings above, for example, which retail for $10,875, can be rented for $160. That’s a savings that a certain outfit-recycling duchess could be proud of.

I stumbled upon this concept by accident, and I find it fascinating. I think the hardest part would be saying goodbye to those gorgeous gems when the rental period is over. Would you consider renting jewelry for your wedding day?
